Newsletter – August 2026 – Start of the season, membership fees, town tour, logo badges, random attack, kata/syllabus course and more

Start of the season

We’ll be starting regular training on Tuesday 4 August. See you at the usual time and place on the mat on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Membership fees and Ju-Jitsu Denmark membership

Soon (or already), membership fees for the next six months will be automatically deducted for the club, provided you are listed as ‘Active’ on https://aarhusjudoklub.dk/teams/JiuJitsu. If you wish to cancel your membership, you can do so on the same website. We do not refund membership fees once they have been deducted.

In addition, you must pay for membership of Ju-Jitsu Denmark for the coming season. This is our national federation, of which everyone must be a member. Among other things, this entitles you to grading exams, attend courses, training sessions and summer camp throughout the year.

Payment is made at https://aarhusjudoklub.dk/events/forbunds-licens-over-15-ar-jiu-jitsu-545168. The 205 kroner covers the period from August 2026 up to and including July 2027.

Please pay as soon as possible and no later than 31 August 2026.

City trip

A table has been reserved at https://restaurantbouillon.dk/ on 15 August at 17.30 for anyone who’d like to join. If you’d like to come along (and of course you would), please let Simon know by 10 August at the latest. We need to let them know, how many of us there will be. Afterwards, there’ll be a get-together at one or perhaps several venues in Aarhus. As usual, this will be at your own expense.

Activities until Christmas

Fortunately, we’ve now reached the period without public holidays leading up to the Christmas break, so there’s plenty of opportunity for training. You can find the schedule of coaches for each training day at https://kalendersiden.dk/embed/cKqgpSDFJQGG~22i7 (or https://kalendersiden.dk/dl/cKqgpSDFJQGG~22i7.pdf, if you’d like a PDF version). We reserve the right to make changes.

The activity schedule for other events can be found at https://aarhusjiujitsu.dk/saesonplan-2026/. Make a note in your diary now for the weekend of 3 and 4 October. This is a kata course which everyone holding 5th kyu (yellow belt) and above must attend, and everyone is welcome to join.

Random Attack

is a new competition format that a few of us are working to introduce in Denmark. In short, it takes place on the mat, where you must defend yourself against various randomly selected attacks. Judges award points based on performance, and a winner is declared for each individual match. You can find all the rules at https://aarhusjiujitsu.dk/wp-content/uploads/Random-Attack-31_07_26.pdf (Danish only).

You can join the Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1073002281957030/ if you’d like to be notified directly when there are updates or a tournament is announced. We’ll be really good at that.

More information to follow.

Logo patches

We’ve had a logo patch made to sew onto your gi. During August, as a member of Aarhus Jiu-Jitsu, you can get up to three of them for free. You simply need to promise to have them sewn onto your gi(s). Please contact Simon to collect them. Sewing them on is not included in the offer.

Logo clothing

You can buy training gear and other items featuring our logo via https://budoxperten.dk/gaa-til-shoppen/2062-aarhus-jiu-jitsu/

Self-defence for women

The course starts again on 27 August and runs for 12 sessions over 12 weeks. Please help spread the word amongst your female friends or share the post on Facebook. You can find more information about the full course at https://aarhusjiujitsu.dk/en/selfdefence-for-women/

Summer training

Once again this summer, there have been plenty of participants at the summer training sessions, so the dojo has been kept warm and sweaty. We’ve been working on knife attacks, staff techniques (defence against and with), takedowns, throws, counter-throws and combinations, and much more. We’ll be doing it again next summer, so you won’t have to sit at home getting bored.

Summer camp

A week in Højer, with brilliant weather – perfect for both training indoors and socialising outdoors – provided ideal conditions for this year’s summer camp. The school itself was perfectly suited to our needs, with beds for everyone, plenty of good food and a large dojo with excellent instructors.

There were two of us from Aarhus taking part. Fewer than usual, so you can help turn that around next year!

Next year’s camp will take place in week 27 and will most likely be held on Zealand. So you can go ahead and mark your calendar now to make sure you’re there.
